The US energy storage market deployed a record 6.7GW/20.2GWh of battery storage in Q2 2026, more than double the previous quarter, according to the latest US Energy Storage Market Outlook from SEIA and Benchmark Mineral Intelligence.
Utility-scale projects dominated, accounting for 17.9GWh, including seven projects of at least 1,000MWh in Arizona, California and Utah. Of new utility-scale capacity, 56% was standalone storage and 44% was paired with solar PV.
In the first half of 2026, US deployments reached 10.3GW/31GWh, up 23% from H1 2025, with utility-scale storage contributing 26GWh.
Commercial and industrial storage is also gaining momentum, driven partly by growing data-centre power requirements and grid constraints.
Notably, almost three-quarters of Q2 capacity was deployed in states won by Donald Trump in 2024. US storage capacity has nearly doubled over the first 18 months of his second administration, rising from 88GWh to 165GWh.
The expansion highlights battery storage’s growing role in grid reliability, energy security and renewable-energy integration across the US.
